Steve Brooks is Owner/President of Potomac Associates LLC based in Arlington, Virginia.
Steve has been an advisor, consultant, and executive coach for over 18 years primarily focusing on large multi-generational family businesses. His consulting career consists of 20,000+ hours of coaching senior level managers and executives in all aspects of business, consulting and advising families/companies on strategy development, family and team dynamics, executive leadership and management development, interpersonal awareness, conflict resolution, and business acumen.
Steve utilizes a wealth of knowledge and experience from his 35-year career in consulting, political and public policy campaigns, lobbying, Capitol Hill, and association management. Prior to starting his business, Steve was Executive Vice President and Chief of Staff of the American Trucking Associations (ATA) where he oversaw a staff of 270 employees and managed leaders in public relations, finance, human resources, policy, legal, and intergovernmental affairs.
Steve was charged with organizational management and strategic planning and led the reorganization of the ATA to align with a post-9/11 political and policy culture in Washington, DC. He built teams within the organization to address national, state, and local public policy issues, worked with trucking/transportation CEOs, and lobbied elected officials at all levels of government.
Through his work and life experiences, his vocational passion is to work with organizations and individuals to help foster positive change and growth. He recognizes that each individual is unique in personality and skill set and that in today's changing work environment there is a growing need for stronger teams where a common purpose vision is the core to success.
Steve is a native of Manitou Springs, Colorado, where he worked for his family’s furniture refinishing business and worked in building construction while attending college at the Colorado State University (Pueblo), where he earned a BS in Political Science and communications. He was a volunteer firefighter and first responder for five years and spent eight years in the rodeo where he competed in bull riding, bareback riding, and team roping. He is now an avid runner and enjoys high altitude trail races. In 2021, Steve received Holy Orders and was ordained as a deacon in the Anglican Church of North America and serves his church in liturgical worship and as a pastor. His passion in life is his faith and family.
